My Talk on GitHub and Open Source
A few months prior, I was invited by COMSATS University’s Computer Science Society to deliver a presentation about GitHub. Initially hesitant about public speaking, I ultimately accepted the invitation as a way to give back to my alma mater.
The event took place on April 23, 2019, in the Seminar Hall at COMSATS Electrical Engineering Department.

Key topics covered
The presentation covered fundamental Git concepts: cloning, staging changes, committing, checking status, pushing, pulling, handling merge conflicts, reviewing logs, resetting, branching, merging, and submitting pull requests.
Primary goal
As someone involved in open source development, I aimed to motivate students to embrace GitHub and participate in the open source community. GitHub is the best portfolio they can have, and I wanted to share knowledge I wish I’d had during my own earlier academic years.
Hands-on experience
The session concluded with an interactive component where participants created pull requests against my repository, which I then merged live.

Reflections
Despite significant nervousness beforehand, the experience was rewarding — stepping outside your comfort zone enables meaningful growth. Thanks to Wajahat Ali Abid and Hadia Jalil for their support in making the event successful.
